Who it fits
Good fit for
This printer suits small office teams that print professional color documents and reports regularly. The 35 ppm speed handles moderate volume efficiently. Automatic duplex printing saves paper and time. The all-in-one function covers printing, scanning, and copying in one device. HP FutureSmart ensures a consistent experience if you manage multiple devices. Reliable Wi-Fi keeps the printer ready for wireless jobs. It is ideal for workgroups that value speed, security, and straightforward operation without complex setup.
Who should skip it
You should look elsewhere if you need high-volume industrial printing. This model is designed for small work teams, not large enterprises with heavy daily loads. The 35 ppm speed may feel slow for high-throughput environments. It lacks a wired Ethernet port mentioned in the data, relying solely on Wi-Fi. If you require dedicated network cabling for stability, this wireless-only connection may not meet your needs. Large offices with extensive IT infrastructure might find the features too basic for their specific security or connectivity requirements.
Verdict: The HP Color LaserJet 4701dw is a solid choice for small teams needing fast color printing and basic office functions. Its security features and duplex capabilities add value for professional document handling.
Key specs explained for this printer
Print Speed: 35 ppm
This specification indicates the machine can produce up to 35 pages every minute. For office teams handling large batches of reports, this speed reduces wait times significantly. You should compare this rate with other color laser printers to ensure it meets your daily volume needs. Faster speeds generally mean higher throughput for busy work environments.
Print Output: Color
The device produces full-color prints rather than just black and white text. This feature is essential for creating professional marketing materials, charts, and branded documents. If your work requires visual accuracy and vibrant graphics, this output type is necessary. Compare this against monochrome models to see if the color capability justifies the usage for your specific office tasks.
Printer Type: All-in-One
An all-in-one unit combines printing, scanning, and copying functions into a single machine. This setup saves desk space and simplifies workflow by eliminating the need for separate devices. Small work teams benefit from having all essential document tasks available in one place. When shopping, verify that the included functions match your actual daily requirements to avoid paying for unused features.
Duplex Printing: Automatic
Automatic duplex printing allows the printer to print on both sides of the paper without manual intervention. This feature reduces paper consumption and creates professional-looking double-sided documents. You save time and effort by not having to flip pages yourself. Compare this convenience with manual duplex models to determine if the automation is worth the potential price difference for your office efficiency.
Design, Dimensions, and Build Layout
According to the listing, the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise 4701dw features a blue exterior finish. The machine measures 16.6 inches wide, 11.7 inches long, and 16.8 inches high. At 36 pounds, this unit has substantial weight for an office device. You will need a sturdy, stable table or counter that supports its mass safely. The 11.7-inch length gives the printer a compact front-to-back profile, helping you place it on standard office credenzas or supply desks where surface depth is restricted.
The all-in-one layout combines print, scan, and copy functions into a single unified housing. The specifications list automatic duplex printing and duplex scanning capabilities. These internal paper handling mechanisms flip two-sided media automatically, which saves you from manual paper reloading during routine document jobs. Because the unit stands 16.8 inches high, you should leave sufficient overhead space clear to operate the scanning and copying surfaces freely.
In addition, the internal architecture integrates with HP FutureSmart, providing consistent fleet operations across multiple devices. The hardware is also built to accept only cartridges with original HP chips or circuitry, blocking third-party chips through periodic firmware updates.
