How Each Alternative Compares
HP LaserJet Enterprise M712dn A3 Monochrome Printer
The HP LaserJet Enterprise M712dn supports A3 paper, which the M612x cannot handle. This makes it the right choice if you regularly print large-format documents. It weighs less at 25 pounds but is taller at 31.9 inches. You give up the M612x’s higher 75 ppm speed for more versatile paper sizes. This model suits offices that prioritize document versatility and wired network stability over maximum print speed. It fits teams that need centralized security management and do not require wireless convenience. The M712dn is a premium option for environments where A3 output is a daily necessity rather than a rare exception.
Brother All-in-One Monochrome Laser Printer
The Brother DCP-L2640DW adds scanning and copying functions, which the M612x lacks. It is significantly smaller, measuring 16.1 by 15.7 inches, making it ideal for compact workspaces. You gain wireless connectivity and mobile printing support, offering flexibility the enterprise M612x does not provide. However, you accept lower print speeds and a smaller input capacity. This all-in-one is best for small offices needing a complete document workflow without the bulk of an enterprise unit. It prioritizes scanning speed and wireless convenience over the high-volume, high-security focus of the M612x. If you need multifunction capabilities in a tight footprint, this Brother model is a practical alternative.
Brother Compact Monochrome Duplex Laser Printer
The Brother HL-L2460DW is much lighter at 15.6 pounds and smaller than the M612x. It includes wireless connectivity and mobile printing, features absent from the wired-only M612x. You get automatic duplex printing and scanning capabilities, though the scan speed is not specified as high as enterprise models. This printer suits home offices or small teams needing fast monochrome output without the bulk of enterprise hardware. It is ideal for document-heavy workflows that do not require scanning, despite the attributes listing it. If you prioritize wireless flexibility and a compact size over high-speed enterprise performance, this Brother model offers a reliable, space-saving solution.
HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3101sdw All-in-One
The HP LaserJet Pro 3101sdw includes scanning and copying functions, which the M612x does not offer. It is much smaller and lighter, weighing 23.1 pounds compared to the M612x’s 58 pounds. You gain automatic duplex scanning and printing in a compact form factor suitable for small teams. This model suits offices that need multifunction capabilities without the bulk of an enterprise unit. You trade the M612x’s 75 ppm speed and advanced security features for a more accessible, all-in-one solution. It is ideal for small offices prioritizing speed and automatic duplexing for black-and-white documents. If you need scanning and copying without enterprise-level hardware, this HP Pro model is a solid choice.
HP LaserJet M207dw Monochrome Duplex Printer
The HP LaserJet M207dw is significantly smaller and lighter than the M612x, weighing 12.4 pounds. It includes wireless connectivity, which the M612x lacks. You get automatic duplex printing and scanning, making it a multifunction device suitable for small offices. This printer fits teams of one to five who prioritize compact size and wireless reliability. You give up the M612x’s high-speed 75 ppm output and enterprise security features. It is ideal for users needing fast, secure black-and-white printing without the bulk of larger units. If you need a practical, space-saving solution with wireless flexibility for a small team, the M207dw offers a focused, efficient alternative to the enterprise-grade M612x.
HP LaserJet M209d USB Duplex Printer
The HP LaserJet M209d connects via USB only, lacking the wireless and network capabilities of the M612x. It is the smallest and lightest option, weighing just 14 pounds and measuring 8.07 by 14 inches. You get automatic duplex printing in a compact, space-saving design. This model suits users who need basic monochrome printing without multifunction features. You give up scanning, copying, and wireless connectivity entirely. It is ideal for small offices that do not require advanced network integration. If you prioritize a minimal footprint and basic duplex printing over speed and connectivity, the M209d offers a straightforward, no-frills solution for simple document output needs.
