How each alternative compares
Brother INKvestment Tank All-in-One Printer
The Brother MFC-J4355DW adds fax support to its wireless color printing and scanning capabilities. While the Epson ET-2985 relies on a cartridge-free ink tank system, this Brother model uses the INKvestment Tank approach. It shares the automatic duplex printing feature but includes a USB connectivity option alongside wireless. You get a slightly larger footprint at 17.1 inches wide compared to the Epson's 14.8 inches. This model suits home offices that need fax functionality alongside color documents. It offers wireless scanning and duplex scanning, matching the Epson's versatility. If you require faxing, this alternative provides that specific function without sacrificing color output or duplex capabilities.
Brother Compact Monochrome All-in-One Laser Printer
The Brother MFC-L2900DW switches from color inkjet to monochrome laser technology. It targets small business workflows focused on text documents rather than colorful graphics. This model includes fax support, which the Epson ET-2985 lacks. It maintains automatic duplex printing and duplex scanning for efficient document handling. The device is significantly larger and heavier, weighing 26 pounds with dimensions of 16.1 inches deep. You trade color printing for the speed and reliability of laser toner. It supports wireless connectivity and includes a scanner and copier. This alternative is ideal if you primarily print black text and need fax capabilities. It gives up color versatility for specialized office efficiency.
Brother Compact Monochrome Multifunction Laser Printer
The Brother HL-L2480DW is a compact monochrome laser printer that omits the scanner and copier functions found in the Epson ET-2985. It focuses on fast text printing and automatic duplexing. This model includes wireless connectivity and mobile printing support, similar to the Epson. It also supports Alexa compatibility. The device is deeper at 15.7 inches but narrower than the Epson. You gain a smaller footprint for text-heavy tasks but lose the ability to scan or copy directly. It lacks color printing entirely. This alternative suits users who prioritize speed and paper savings in a small space. It is a practical choice for home offices that only need to print text documents and value automatic duplexing.
Brother INKvestment Color All-in-One Printer
The Brother MFCJ5010DW offers a color inkjet experience with a touchscreen interface, unlike the small display on the Epson ET-2985. It includes fax support and wireless connectivity for scanning and copying. This model is larger, measuring 17.3 inches wide and weighing 30.9 pounds. It provides automatic duplex printing and duplex scanning, matching the Epson's paper handling features. You get a more intuitive control panel with the touchscreen. The device is designed for small offices needing reliable color output and fax capabilities. It shares the wireless scanning feature but differs in its physical control method. If you prefer a larger screen and need faxing, this alternative provides those features alongside color printing.
Brother Wireless Color Multi-Function Printer
The Brother HL-L3300CDW uses color laser technology instead of the Epson's ink tank system. It delivers steady color output with automatic duplex printing and wireless scanning. This model is significantly larger and heavier, weighing 40.8 pounds. It includes mobile printing support and Alexa compatibility. The device is 17.5 inches wide, making it wider than the Epson. You gain the durability and speed of laser printing but lose the cartridge-free refillable tank system. It is ideal for small offices needing color laser quality. The model supports wireless connectivity and includes scanning and copying functions. If you prioritize laser reliability and color output over ink tank efficiency, this alternative is a strong option.
Brother Business Color Laser All-in-One
The Brother MFC-L8730CDW is a high-volume color laser all-in-one designed for busy offices. It features automatic duplex printing, wireless scanning, and copying. This model is much larger and heavier, weighing 67.9 pounds with a height of 21 inches. It includes fax support, which the Epson ET-2985 does not. The device offers robust performance for complex scanning tasks and high-volume color jobs. You trade the compact size of the Epson for industrial-grade capacity. It supports wireless connectivity and includes a scanner and copier. This alternative is best for offices that need speed and security over a small footprint. It provides comprehensive features for teams requiring reliable color laser output and advanced document handling.
