Who it fits

Key specs explained

Print Speed: 16 ppm black / 9 ppm color

This speed rating tells you how many pages the printer produces each minute. You get 16 pages per minute for black text and 9 pages for color. This is useful if you print long documents or color reports regularly. When comparing laser printers, note that many laser models print faster, especially for black text. This speed is adequate for typical home office tasks but may feel slow for high-volume commercial work.

Ink/Toner System: Refillable ink tank

This system uses large, refillable tanks instead of traditional cartridges. You add ink directly from bottles when levels run low. This design reduces the frequency of purchases and lowers long-term costs for high-volume printing. It is ideal for users who print many pages monthly. In contrast, standard cartridge printers require frequent replacements. This system offers a practical solution for managing ink supply efficiently without dealing with small, expensive cartridges.

Connectivity: Wireless, USB

You can connect this printer to your network via Wi-Fi or directly through a USB cable. Wireless connectivity allows multiple devices to share the printer without physical cables. USB provides a stable, direct link for a single computer. This flexibility suits home offices with various devices. When shopping for laser printers, check if wireless is standard. This feature enables convenient printing from laptops and mobile devices on the same network.

Print Output: Color

This printer produces full-color prints, not just black and white. You can create vibrant photos, charts, and colored documents. This capability is essential for marketing materials or creative projects. Monochrome laser printers only output black text. If you need color for presentations or personal use, this feature is necessary. Verify that your workflow requires color output before choosing this model over a simpler black-only device.

Printer Type: All-in-One

An all-in-one device combines printing, copying, and scanning into a single unit. You do not need separate machines for each function. This saves space and simplifies your workspace. It is convenient for home offices where space is limited. When comparing laser printers, note that some only print. This multifunction design offers versatility for everyday tasks like scanning documents to email or making quick paper copies.

Design and build overview

The Brother INKvestment Tank 580 is a compact all-in-one unit. According to the listing, it measures 19.4 inches in height, 18.1 inches in length, and 9 inches in width. The device weighs 14.8 pounds. This size allows it to fit on standard home office desks without taking up excessive space. The black finish keeps the look professional and neutral.

Controls are minimal and practical. A single-line LCD screen sits on the front panel. This display provides straightforward messages for operation. You do not need a complex touchscreen to navigate basic tasks. The layout prioritizes simplicity over advanced features. This approach reduces the learning curve for new users.

The build supports its role as a home office tool. The compact footprint means you can place it in smaller rooms or corners. The weight suggests a stable base that resists tipping during paper loading. The design focuses on essential functions: print, copy, and scan. You get reliable performance in a small package. The physical dimensions ensure it fits typical workspaces. The controls keep daily use easy. This combination suits users who need a no-fuss printer for occasional documents and photos.

Setup and daily operation

Setup begins with connecting the device to your network. The listing specifies wireless and USB interface options. You can choose the connection method that fits your workspace. Once linked, the Brother Mobile Connect app provides onscreen menu navigation. This tool allows you to manage printing, copying, and scanning from your mobile device. The app simplifies device management and puts control at your fingertips.

Daily operation relies on a 1-line LCD. This display provides uncomplicated messaging. It keeps operation straightforward without complex menus. You refill the ink tanks using Brother Genuine no-spill bottles. The design prevents inserting incorrect color bottles. Refilling takes approximately 30 seconds for color and 65 seconds for black ink. This system supports up to 3 years of ink in-box.

The printer includes automatic duplex printing. This feature handles two-sided documents without manual intervention. You load paper into the 150-sheet tray. The easy-load design makes refills simple. You can print at speeds up to 16 pages per minute for black text. Color output reaches 9 pages per minute. The unit supports color print output.

You scan documents using wireless scanning capabilities. Copying is available as a supported function. The printer uses refillable ink tank technology. You must use Brother Genuine BTD180 Ink bottles. This ensures reliable performance. The device includes a 3-year limited warranty. Customer service is available for support. These specs define the daily workflow for home and office tasks.

Before You Buy This Printer

You should verify your mobile device compatibility before purchasing. The Brother Mobile Connect app is essential for managing print, copy, and scan tasks from your phone. Ensure your operating system supports this application. You will need to purchase Brother Genuine BTD180 ink bottles separately for ongoing use. The listing notes that three years of ink are included in the box, but you must refill the tanks every 30 seconds for color or 65 seconds for black. Keep spare bottles nearby to avoid interruptions. This inkjet model differs significantly from laser printers found elsewhere on Laser Printers & Office Machines. It suits home offices needing vibrant color prints rather than high-volume text. Check your space requirements, as the unit measures 19.4 inches tall. Automatic duplex printing saves paper, but you must load sheets into the 150-sheet tray manually. Regular maintenance involves cleaning the printhead to prevent clogs.

Check before you buy

• Confirm your mobile device supports the Brother Mobile Connect app.
• Verify your workspace fits the 19.4-inch height and 18.1-inch length.
